How Search Works on Fresh Map

Fresh Map doesn't rank vendors by star rating, popularity, or how much anyone paid. You type what you're looking for, and matching vendors surface on the map and in the list below it. Here's what's actually happening when you do that.

You type it, we match it

Search is a single text box. Type something you want to buy — "eggs," "honey," "blueberries" — or a kind of place — "farmers market," "CSA," "u-pick" — and Fresh Map checks it against each vendor's name, the kind of place it is, and the description on its profile. The match is the same for everyone who types the same thing: nothing here is personalized, and nothing is AI-ranked. It's a direct, repeatable lookup, not a recommendation engine guessing what you'll like.

If you type a crop that's in season, like "okra," and no listing names it, Fresh Map shows you the farms and markets most likely to carry it — and says so, so you know that's what you're looking at.

What search doesn't tell you

Fresh Map doesn't label vendors by how their food is grown or raised. You won't find a "grass-fed" or "organic" badge on a listing, and there's no filter for one. Those words mean different things to different producers, and nobody on the Fresh Map team walks the fields or checks a kitchen.

You can still type a word like that. A vendor shows up only if its own name or profile description uses it — and a match means the word appears there, not that Fresh Map has looked into it. If how food is produced matters to you, ask the vendor directly. If something on a listing looks off, use the report link on that vendor's page.
